Artist Statement
To me, life is like a motion picture continuously changing and revealing endless impressions. We have the opportunity to observe through many different lenses of perception. A single object can be interpreted through 100's of different artistic approaches. The artist can simultaneously work on realistic and abstract perception to shape and transfer the observed world onto a two dimensional surface. We can take a found object and repurpose it as an object of artistic significance. I might start with a familiar image and I'm able to marry it with different artistic components to truly create an original composition. I can capture a variety of angles, shapes, colours, and lights that come and go in fleeting moments. I can capture the feelings, vibes and dynamics of fleeting impressions, disappearing as fast as they appear to allow them to last forever in an abstract composition. The pinnacle of this interpretation eventually simplifies the expression to single dramatic brush-strokes, like the sculptor Constantin Brancussi who arrived at a simple oval shaped object at the end of his artistic journey.
